Share your voice and ideas on directions for Our Odyssey’s future programs and services: Apply to be a member of the Young Adult Programming Advisory Council!

The Council

Our Odyssey is starting a new venture, and we are looking for community members to apply to be a part of the Young Adult Programming Advisory Council!

As a member of the Council you would have a say in the work we do, and help ensure it supports you and others like you. Your voice can make a difference in advising and informing Our Odyssey’s strategic direction.

Applying to be a Council Member

The mission of Our Odyssey is to connect young adults (ages 18 to 35)  impacted by a rare or chronic condition with social and emotional support in the hope of improving their quality of life.

Our Odyssey seeks those with lived experiences (young adults who are impacted by a rare or chronic condition) to apply for one of the limited number of Council seats.

What Council Members Get

Council Members will receive a $25 stipend for each meeting attended.

Council Members will also get the experience of serving their community, the knowledge that their input brought programs and services to the next level and the gratitude of the Our Odyssey team.

What will Council Members Do?

Our Odyssey is excited to launch the Council this year.  This is what things will look like initially:

The Council will meet (virtually) quarterly. Our Odyssey’s Executive Director will set each agenda and lead the work of the Council (Council Members will report to the Executive Director). Council Members will help the Executive Director with Our Odyssey programming goals and duties (some of which are described below). There may be adjustments during the inaugural year, as needed.

Example Meeting: A meeting agenda might include the following:

--Do you have suggestions for speakers for upcoming Topic Specific Meetups?

--What topics would you like to see presented at future Topic Specific Meetups?

--Our Odyssey is applying for a grant to start a new program – what feedback can you offer to help develop this potential program for the grant application?

--What potential new programs and services could Our Odyssey add; and how would these activities meet the SMART Goal framework (see below)?

--What communities can we connect with to expand Our Odyssey’s programming reach?

--What feedback do you have for taking Our Odyssey current programs to the next level?

What else do I need to know?

Council Members can serve up to two consecutive 12-month terms; but would need to reapply at the end of each term.

The $25 meeting stipend may come in the form of a gift card (to be determined).

The Executive Director (ED) of Our Odyssey has the responsibility of ensuring that costs of programming opportunities and Council feedback align with the available resources of the organization (including time required and funding needed).

Before launching new programming projects, the Executive Director will ensure programming can meet SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant to mission, and Time-Bound). The Executive Director may also request feedback from constituents (such as the Advisory Council). After the ED has done ‘due diligence’ – then the ED may choose to enact the relevant programming or changes.
